Damien, an associate (and now partner) at Linklaters, began working with me after being introduced by a mutual friend. Although Damien had been fit in his younger years and throughout university, his demanding legal career in the City made it difficult to prioritize health and fitness.

Determined to make a change, Damien committed to working with me for three months over the Spring.

He trained with me three times a week using Charles Poliquin’s German Body Recomposition program, which focuses on multi-joint resistance exercises with moderate reps and short rest periods. At the end of each workout, Damien performed a 3-4 exercise circuit, which helped increase calorie burn, equivalent to an extra workout.

We also tracked Damien’s daily step count to ensure consistent physical activity throughout the day.

Given Damien’s busy work schedule, a rigid meal plan wasn’t practical, so we used an online food diary to track his daily calories and macronutrients. This allowed Damien to stay flexible with his diet while receiving regular feedback from me to keep him on track.

As a lawyer, time was Damien’s biggest obstacle.

After several last-minute cancellations early in the program, we realized that lunchtime sessions weren’t viable due to meetings and calls running over. The solution was simple: we scheduled his sessions before work. Though the early starts were initially challenging, he soon adapted and found that morning workouts gave him an energy boost, helping him focus during the day and sleep better at night.

At the end of the program, Damien lost two stone of body fat, gained significant muscle mass and strength, and saw a marked improvement in his overall fitness.
